At what stage of my new home should I look at the landscaping?

The earlier the better. A ‘holistic’ approach to your property development will always result in a superior final product. Being able to consider the landscape and its link with the house as early as possible often results in little adjustments in the architect’s plans to enhance the final design.

Can I build the garden myself?

Yes, a number of my clients have the skills required and undertake the installation themselves. My completed design manual includes full bill of quantities and construction drawings, so with a little help form me on the phone or site visits, people can enjoy the process and save some money with self-build project.

Do I need to have site survey carried out?

No, if you or your architect have a site survey already prepared it will help, but I generally do a full geographic and photographic survey myself.

Do you charge for initial consultation?

Yes, I charge a €200 initial consultation fee, although I will waive that cost if commissioned to produce design package.

Do you do a design only service?

Yes. If you wish to undertake he construction installation yourself; or with a family member; friend or other contractor, my comprehensive design manual includes full bill of quantities and construction drawings, so that anyone who can read a plan and has some construction experience can build your garden.

Do you do Landscape Plans for Planning Permission applications?

Yes, I offer a full Planning Service in accordance with the County Councils’ requirements.

Do you have a minimum project size?

No, sometimes the smallest places can be the most challenging and most satisfying!

Do you have a particular style?

No, I always try to reflect both the clients and the property’s style into the landscape. This being said I do also enjoy working within a strong brief, whether it be formal; classical; contemporary; Zen or minimalist.

Do you offer a full installation service?

Yes, I work with several contractors to install most of my design projects. This service includes the supply of all materials, plants and skilled labour to ensure a swift and professional build.

How long does the design process take?

I generally try to produce concept drawings within 2/3 weeks to get the ball rolling and get something onto the table for further thought, discussion and development. The whole process should be completed within 6 weeks.

How much does a landscape design cost?

Anything from €500 to €10,000 depending on the size of site, complexity of design brief and location distance, although typically my fees range from €1,000 to €5,000 for private garden design. If you’d like me to manage the whole project, we will agree a suitable fee for overall project management. I’m also perfectly happy to work on an agreed hourly rate.

How much should I expect to pay for my landscape installation?

A slight open ended question, but as a guide my gardens typically cost between €10,000 and €100,000. There’s too wide a range of garden sizes and design complexities to be any clearer than that!

I already have an architect and builder involved in my project, will you work with them?

Yes, any project always benefits from collaboration between professionals. From design discussion with the architect to practical construction considerations with the builder, it often saves money and speeds up the project to collaborate the available skills.

I have a lot of ideas, how will I be involved in the design process?

I place a lot of emphasis on listening and interpreting your wishes and will include you as much as possible to ensure that your completed garden reflects all your ideas, along with my overall interpretation. Typically the design process will include 2 to 3 design meetings.

If I can’t afford to do all the work at once, can a project be phased?

Yes, absolutely, I’d much rather see you divide the project into a number of phases, than compromise on the important aspects of the design to achieve a one stop build.

Why should I work with a landscape designer?

As a landscape designer I have over 20 years’ experience in translating peoples wishes and dreams into reality using my qualifications and experience in horticulture and garden design. A considered ‘holistic’ design approach ensures your property’s potential is achieved.
