Brief: To integrate an existing flat roofed detached garage into both the house and terrace garden, creating usable additional storage and work facilities along with outdoor entertaining space.
This was an interesting project to work on as it allowed me to include a bit of architectural design to answer the brief and enhance the landscape requirements.
Design: By re-roofing the garage block with an oversized traditional A-frame roof I was able to incorporate potting shed/storage extension to the end of the building, a comfortable link to house and veranda style covered seating area. Decorative natural chunky timber pillars add a rustic feel and the undercover open fireplace creates a living room outside. Notice that the curved corners add a softness to the otherwise ‘square’ building.
By extending the existing natural granite flag stone paving I increased the terrace area whilst tying in the new garage extension feature seamlessly.
